Alex has been paragliding obsessed since 2019. He is well known in the Canberra flying community and has become addicted to cross country and competition flying. Alex is one of the founders of CanGlide.
Nick learned to paraglide in the ACT in 2014 and has flown at all the local sites as well as several other inland sites in New South Wales and Victoria. Nick is in it for the long haul, and his approach to flying is methodical and conservative. Nick is one of the founders of CanGlide.
Michael learned to paraglide in the ACT in 2014 and has since flown locally as well as numerous inland and coastal sites throughout Australia. He has also flown Bali and the French Alps. Michael's approach to flying is both methodical and prudent. Michael is one of the founders of CanGlide.
Shippers has been paragliding since 2017, having learned in the British Army. Shippers took up paragliding as part of recovery from PTSD, which was extremely beneficial. Having flown in England, Wales and France before moving to Australia in 2019, Shippers has enjoyed flying the local ACT and many other sites throughout Australia. Shippers is one of the founders of CanGlide.
Ken flew Hang Gliders then migrated to paragliders in 2014. Flying is his happy place, and he's keen to share the joy. Previously a RAAF engineer, then aerospace industry sales manager - he's an advocate for VR learning and sees the potential of VR to show how much fun this sport is.
Had a go this weekend on the sim, and it was way better than I expected (and this, taking into account my near decade of experience in aerospace simulation and virtual environments). The controls (including weight shift), visuals and environmental conditions modelling are high fidelity, you've even got an audible altimeter with accurate vario reads in your virtual dashboard. I did some thermalling on my way to landing - in Annecy and elsewhere :-) . It's also a safe and useful way to trial the relative difference in wing response if you're thinking of moving up a wing level. This is a fantastic resource, would be great to have access to it longer term for focused training."
Had a go this morning on the CanGlide simulator wow fantastic - great for letting you dial back into decision making and keeping up with your environment with a fun crew. Highly recommend giving it a go especially when you're starved of airtime and the bonus of no parawaiting so you are literally in the air at said time and done so you can squeeze in as much as you want or as little as you have time between other commitments and still get some wind on your face. Thanks guys. 👍😁
Tried it last night. As a student pilot struggling to get air time to finish my licence it was a great way to keep the feel for flying and bed down the things I’ve been learning with my instructor
Can recommend it. I took my mother and kids and we had a great time. It’s a good way to share the PG experience with friends and family, and the novelty of the VR is good too. It really does feel like flying.
Spent some time with Nick and Michael at CanGlide P/L this afternoon. I was amazed at how accurately the VR equipment translated PG flight. It is not a toy by any means. If you need to brush up on your existing PG skills or learn new manoeuvres, I can highly recommend it.
Nick guided me through the simulator earlier today during a 30min intro. It really does feel like you are flying, there is even wind blowing in your face. As a low hour pg2 I was able to work on maintaining lift in thermals and get a feel for the simulator. Well done guys very impressive!
I just spent an hour on the CanGlide Simulator under the guidance of Alex and Nick, what an awesome training tool! As a low hours PG2 I was able to repeatedly practice landing approaches in tight conditions without the stress of ending up in LG. Great value and highly recommended!
We'd like to get to know you and your goals. Please complete the form below and one of our operators will be in touch to discuss whether PG simulation is right for you.
